Are you ready to celebrate your child’s First Birthday with an unforgettable Cake Smash photo session?
A cake smash & splash photography session is a delicious finger licking way to celebrate your baby’s First Birthday! This photo session is designed to capture the joy and excitement of reaching the milestone of 1st Birthday and is usually scheduled 4 to 6 weeks prior to baby’s Birthday (so that your gallery can be edited and delivered in time to use for their birthday party) or scheduled on their actual Birthday to celebrate this special day!
My Birthday sessions are entirely customised and full of fun for both baby and parents! Little ones love to play with all the fancy decorations and balloons, and their facial expression the moment they get a cake put in front of them is absolutely priceless!
BOOKING YOUR CAKE SMASH SESSION
To reserve your space in the diary there’s a £50 non-refundable retainer required at the time of booking your session. I can not reserve a date otherwise. Once you select a package, an outstanding balance will be paid before or on the day of the session (no images will be edited until the collection has been paid for in total). Once your session has been booked we will discuss all the details including selecting a colour palette and theme for your baby’s session. If you don't have any ideas, don't worry, I'll be delighted to send you some suggestions and we’ll work from there! If you'd like to supply your own cake please let me know and I will deduct £25 off of your chosen package. If your baby suffers from any allergies, please, do let me know in advance! I will make sure the studio environment is clear and safe and your baby’s cake is made to match your baby’s needs (gluten, dairy, egg and nut free cake options are available upon request). If you prefer not to give your baby a cake it can be substituted for something entirely different and I accommodated lots of different requests in the past including: Spaghetti Smash, Cupcakes Smash, Doughnut Smash, Pancake Smash, Watermelon Smash and even a Pizza Smash! etc.
WHAT TO EXPECT
My cake smash photo shoots take place at my home studio and last about 1-2 hours. Photo session includes a custom made birthday cake, decorations, banners and balloons. I will also provide outfits for the little one but feel free to bring your own as additional outfit is always welcome. We typically have time to go through 2-3 outfit changes, depending on the mood of our little model.
This photo session is usually divided into three parts: We warm up starting with classic portraits including photos with parents, cake and various birthday props. All my birthday photo shoots include ONE family photo (if requested) at no extra cost to allow you to make some beautiful family memories from this day!. We then move on to the cake smash part, where your little one will have an opportunity to joyfully play with the birthday cake. This part is usually very messy and is naturally followed by a bath where your little one can splash the cake away in warm bubbly water.
HOW TO PREPARE TO YOUR CAKE SMASH SESSION
To make sure our little model is happy and content throughout the photoshoot, please make sure your baby is well fed and had a good nap before the session.
I always try to schedule the time of cake smash sessions following the baby’s routine so please let me know what time is most suitable for your baby and I will do my best to accommodate it. It’s also a good idea to bring along a favourite toy, as well as some snacks and drinks in case your little one needs some encouragement. Also, a change of clothes for everyone (not just the birthday boy or girl) is a good idea as parents don’t often realise that they will likely become covered in cake and icing at some point too.

- nappies
- towel for your little one to dry after his splash session
- special soap if your little one has sensitive skin or any other skin condition
- some snacks and drink (in case your little one needs some encouragement)
- favourite toys to grab their attention during the shoot
- an outfit for your child to be photographed in (if you wish but this is not necessary as I will provide outfits as well)
- extra outfit to wear after the session
- change of clothes for parents (just in case!)
- a favourite/important item that you’d like to include in the session
- hair brush
AFTER YOUR CAKE SMASH SESSION
It usually takes about 4-6 weeks for the gallery to be ready.. I professionally retouch each individual image presented to you. Once your gallery is completed, I will send you a private online viewing gallery link for you to select your favourite images. I will also guide you through all the product options if you are looking to create a special keepsake for your baby in the form of a Photo Album or a Wall Art. Your gallery will consist of a minimum of 20 images. There are fine art prints included in each package, however, you are more than welcome to order additional prints especially if you’re planning thank you gifts for your family. Once full payment has been received your prints and products will be ordered. They can take up to 3-6 weeks to deliver, depending on your product selection (there are various production timescales for each product). As soon as they arrive at my studio I will inspect the quality and we will set a convenient pick up date.
